PRE-OPERATIVE REHABILITATION
A very important part of the overall rehabilitation of the patient is just a preoperative rehabilitation, which accelerates the flow of recovery. Before the scheduled surgery, the doctor specialist will determine the best possible choice of therapeutic procedures to better physical and psychological preparation of the patient for surgery.
The aim of preoperative physical therapy is:
- Fixing the fitness condition of the patient in order to allow the body a speedy recovery
- Increase muscle tone. It is important prior to a planned operation to strengthen the affected muscles to facilitate postoperative course. This segment of preoperative rehabilitation is especially important for athletes which will allow high-quality physical therapy faster return to form.
Preoperative therapy adapts to individual issues and to the type of injury, and are commonly used physical procedures to reduce swelling and pain, then kinesiotherapy in the gym and/or pool.
Also, it is very important to educate the patient about prevention of possible re-injury.
